Call Off The Strike//: National Labour Commission to Teacher Unions

NATIONAL LABOUR COMMISSION HAS DIRECTED TEACHER UNIONS TO CALL OFF THE STRIKE AND APPEAR BEFORE THEM.

INVITATION TO APPEAR BEFORE THE COMMISSION

RE: REQUEST FOR INTERVENTION IN ONGOING STRIKE ACTION BY PRE TERTIARY TEACHER UNIONS

We refer to letter dated 8 November, 2022 served on the Commission by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) and copied among others.

According to the letter, the Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions raised concerns over the appointment of a new Director-General for the Ghana Education Service (GES) following which the MELR met the Leadership on Friday 4 November, 2022 to explore amicable solution to avoid any labour unrest and its implications. However, the Unions had declared a nationwide strike and despite several attempts, they failed to call off the strike, and it is still ongoing.

In view of that, the National Labour Commission writes to invite the parties to appear before the Commission on Wednesday, 9th November, 2022 at 10:00 a. m. for a hearing of the issues in dispute With this intervention, the Union is advised to stay all ongoing /intended action(s) and appear as scheduled.

Parties are to take note accordingly.
