UK'S Prime Minister LIZ TRUSS resigns after 45 DAYS

The Prime Minister has announced her resignation, after just 45 days in the role.

Liz Truss announced she is stepping down yesterday, following some pretty dramatic scenes in the House of Commons over a vote on fracking. MPs were calling for her to go after the vote, and she has since confirmed that a leadership election will take place within the next week.

There are likely to be a few candidates vying for her job, including Rishi Sunak, who came in second during the Conservative party leadership contest. Other contenders include Penny Mordaunt, Grant Shapps and Kemi Badenoch.

Suella Braverman, who was sacked from Liz Truss' government on Wednesday, may also throw her hat in the ring.

She said she had informed the King of her decision, and that she would remain as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen.

The Conservative Party will now hold a leadership contest, to be completed over the next week.
